Montgomery County is an epicenter of culture, growth and innovation in Southwest Virginia due in large part to our local universities: Virginia Tech and nearby Radford University. The universities bring in inventors, renowned performers, and an energy with the students that lights up the community. Whether you’re visiting campus or coming to town for a game, the lively atmosphere will welcome you with a “Hokie, Hokie, Hy.”

 

As part of the massive Innovation Campus program, Virginia Tech will increase undergraduate enrollment at its Blacksburg campus by 2,000 students in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, and related disciplines over the next eight years. The culture of the region will continue to evolve as these tech thought-leaders become further integrated into a region proud of its agricultural history and roots.

With more than 11,000 students, nearby Radford University offers a wide range of academic, cultural, human service and research programs. With more than 300 clubs and organizations, Radford University offers many opportunities for student engagement, leadership development and community service, further enhancing the culture of the New River Valley.
